Why does Myanmar worker quit the company soon

When I stayed in Myanmar for 3 years, I heard such problem that a lot of Myanmar workers resigned soon from a lot of my Japanese friends.

During the 3 years, I worked with Myanmar staff and sometimes went to have a meal as a friend.

I just analyze the reason why the Myanmar staffs resign their jobs soon with my experiences like below.

I really appreciate if you check below my opinions as one of many references.

2、Too much modest

3、Passiveness

1、 Attitude of tackling a work

Generally, I think that one year length of working is not enough for people to master the business.

However, the Myanmar staffs who I used to teach for 1 year in my before company tend to think that they could have already mastered the working even though they made some mistakes in simple tasks.

It is seemed that there are not so many Myanmar staffs who think how they can prevent the mistakes again because they tend to think that it happens quite often when they make a mistake.

This could be supposed that it is happened because of different attitude of tracking a work.

It could be difficult to teach how they can prevent the mistakes and only one year length of working is not enough for them to master , and also if the foreigner teaches them, they could not listen because they might misunderstand that Myanmar people and the foreigners are different , so they cannot do like the foreigner….

<How to prevent these problems>

I suggest to hire the Myanmar staffs who can understand both cultures and teach the key person to understand main tasks in your company.

Finally, I suppose that it could be the best for the key person to teach a lot of Myanmar local staffs.

2、Too much modest

In long term of military regime, a lot of Myanmar people were taught not to obey the order by their superior, otherwise they could be killed, so I think that they tried not to speak their opinion spontaneously.

And I feel that this has been made a habit for a lot of Myanmar people, so they cannot say their opinion or ideas for their companies.

Also, they do not like to make waves, so it will escalate not to speak their opinion more.

How should I deal with this problem.

<How to prevent this problem>

As I explained in No.1, it is better to rely on the key person and make a good relationship with a lot of local staffs.

To build a deep relationship, it should be important to make some opportunities to talk with local staffs in the company and it will connect to changing of their character.

Finally, the company will have an open culture.

3、Passiveness

As I explained you in No.2, because of long term of military regime, there is a deep rooted thinking that they do not want to say their opinion & have to obey their superior.

So, they tend to think that they receive salary from their company not to earn the money by themselves.

If they always think like this, they do not have their opinions and just check their superior’s face and obey only superior’s order, if this behavior is established, they think about only salary and do not work as much as they can…

After thinking above for long time, they could feel that this company cannot give us the chance to grow up…,so it is better to change their job.

Finally, it will lead to losing Myanmar staffs…

<How to prevent this problem>

It should make them be conscience of earning by themselves and be able to grow up in their company.

Therefore, the company needs to give the chances to attend some training and set up some personal meetings to create concrete future plan for them.

It is very basic measure but really difficult to make them understand.

 

I have explained 3 subjects like above, but in conclusion, the most important thing is to hire the key person & raise the person up.

However, there is not only one solution but another one.

I have heard from one owner like that he tries to make really close relationship with local staffs, like family.

I assume that this is also another solution.

I suppose that it is really difficult to teach Myanmar staffs, but all of them are really kind & honest, personally I really like Myanmar people.><
